Jesus Wept, goose.

Anderson has more goals, end of.

You 'd start an argument in an empty room.

By your Logic Di Canio should never had been viven a chance to play up front,

In a lot less games and at a much higher level.

He’s 1 in 4 despite those lean days early on. Anderson is 1 in 6. And hasn’t scored in 23 games. He’s not second striker I’m afraid.

Anderson has so far in his career scored 41 goals aged 26

Di Canio aged 26 had scored 23 career goals.

Let's give the boy Anderson a chance playing off Haller, eh - won't hurt!

Paolo Di Canio's stats - his goals are in the brackets.

He was hardly prolific before he joined us, he seemed to become a little more prolific when he was about 28, so Anderson has a couple of years to improve.

As others have alluded to. When a team is sitting back in defensive blocks like palace you kind of need to create width to stretch them.

It’s hard to dribble / pass through a defensive line like that.

both our wide men naturally cut in being that they play opposite to their normal left/right footing.

so we don’t put crosses in and don’t stretch teams unless our full backs overlap. Which creates problems if someone like Saha is waiting for you to vacate your position.

Bringing Arthur on will stretch that type of defence. conversely, bringing on Antonio for yarma can do the same.

you can’t just have 1 strategy to beat all teams. It doesn’t work. And it’s not about who’s technically better. Of course Lanzini is technically better than Arthur but lanzini cant do what Arthur can do in terms of crosses etc,.

got to stop respecting names and look at what your trying to do at any given time. It’s about problem solving at the end of the day.

Well, looking att his stats he doesn't seem to say that. But lets say you're right.

Most front players are 'forwards' so they play along the front line

I don't see the reason why we can't try him playing off the striker.

Is such an outrageous suggestion?

No he didn’t.
Played through the middle in Germany and at Inter.

Well, Arnautovic played on the wing till he was 28/29.

Stranger things have happened.

Let's leave it at that.

An excellent finisher who’s never scored more than 10 goals?
He’s had numerous managers in Brazil, Italy & here but none have played him through the middle.
But you know best eh?

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Crystal Palace - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
Lanzini did appear to be very deep on Saturday. Quite often we'll behind noble.
Bottom line tho is that we got ourselves in front.
If we can't work out how to prevent the opposition from equalising quickly after that, we don't deserve to win it.

When playing these sides at home who sit behind the ball, we need to adjust our game when we do eventually break them down and score.

Rossal - Yeah I agree that looked shit, but they've done that a lot stifled teams and managed to come away with the points.

It seems to be fruitful for them.

Stop trying to deflect from the point of conversation - you clown ;-)

Anderson is an excellent finisher.

Have you seen his goals?

Anyway, this is just getting petty.

You dont think Anderson should be tried centrally, i do, lets leave it at that.

The team that we played sat wasnt great. They didnt create much, didnt have much of the ball and could have easily been 1 or 2 down before Haller scored. They got a break from putting 2 balls in the box, apart from that they were average. Not fussed about what they done before, im talking purely that 90 mins on sat. They wasnt a good side and theres no way we should accept losing to them.

The result was more about us being shit then them being anything like a decent side.

Then youve just made my point for me.

Thank you please, goose.

Thank you please.

I know you wont believe me, but i was saying to myself "Im sure Di Canio started out on the wing, echen he was in Italy"

But i wasnt sure enough, otherwise i would have mentioned it for the obvious reasons as it would back up the theory to play Anderson centrally.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Crystal Palace - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
We played against extremely defensive team therefore it's not really hard to understand why both manu and felipe struggled. Lanzini couldn't do literally anything as palace played with 3 defensive midfielders and felipe constantly had to track back in order to prevent zaha take 1v1 duel's against cress. In these kind of games u need fast paced players coming of the bench and, unfortunately, we currently have no one who fits that profile. Also, it can't be just a coincidence that we are not playing that well with cress in starting lineup. As I've said before, there is no way we can repeat that norwich performance without arthur imo. Arthur, manu and felipe link up brilliantly.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Crystal Palace - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
Lanzini is not a natural winger. If he was to play out wide he would be cutting in alot onto his right foot. A bit like what Yarmolenko does on the right onto his left.

Playing Anderson through the middle could be very effective with his skill and pace. he is certainly quicker and more direct than Lanzini.

With Masuaku and Frederiks overlapping on the flanks it could be very effective.

It is definitely worth a try.

Defence seems decent enough at the moment. Our CBs are playing well. It is midfield that needs to improve.

Noble as the furthest forward CM simply did not work.

goose 6:45 Mon Oct 7
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Crystal Palace - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
you think?
i think he's a prick but i'd rather have him than Anderson.
He makes a very poor Palace side into an average one and he's a proper threat, albeit with very little support.

i think being on the pitch drags Anderson back ten yards straight away.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Crystal Palace - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
Goose,

Was Di Canio asked to track back and help the fullback out?

No. His job was to help assist and score.

Anderson scores 9 as a winger.

If you asked Di Canio to play as winger, he wouldnt have had the pace to get in the position to fuck up.

Di Canio is my favourite all time player, by the way.

Youre trying to turn this into a Anderson v Di Canio, pointless going down that road.

Anderson playing off Haller would be well worth trying out.

Anderson is too much of a gifted player to have playing on wing, if it means his attacking abilities are stifled by having to track back to help the fullback.

If he somehow manages to rediscover his goal scoring form, whilst still adequetly defending, then great. But for moment, he's not scoring and i think we need him scoring like he was last season. Bit of a waste all round if he isnt.

In fairness, Zaha was marked out the game. He had 1 decent run of note, and that piece of skill in the box. Other than that he was dogshit.

Overrated.
